Enmity and Apathy

I was challenged by one of my "Otaku" friends to try to adapt manga/anime charachters into my style.
Though I have yet to actually read the manga (if there is one) or see the anime, Everyone on the internet (and on DA) knows about Evangelion. So going on what I've been told about the charachters (Asuka's bitchy, snotty, pushy, loud, demanding, violent, bipolar; Rei just doesn't care about anything) I tried to adapt them to my style with more realistic body proportions. Seriously, when was the last time you saw a human being, let alone 15 year old Japanese girls, that were nine heads tall and less than a relative foot around their waist?
They said it looked well enough, but the charachter's attitudes were completely off. I personally don't really think so. Asuka looks like a stuck-up badass (albeit only in her own mind) and Rei looks perfectly like she couldn't give a shit if she even cared to try.
Now Iv'e been told that the guy who did this Anime was clinically depressed when he wrote it, and as such you have to be in the same state to fully appreciate it (or else the show will get you there). As as much as I've heard that it's a good show, being that I don't like feeling bummed, I dunno if I really should see it or not....
